Kalamazoo students bake, decorate cakes in ‘Cake Wars’ competition

KALAMAZOO, MI — Kalamazoo learners acquired to test their hand at cake decorating this week at Linden Grove Middle School for their classes’ own model of “Cake Wars.”

Named in honor of the Foods Network master cake-creating Tv exhibit, the undertaking was a prospect for middle college students to make their individual cake and frosting creations.

Eighth grade Lifetime Capabilities trainer Erica Drogosch said the task is a favorite a single for a lot of students each 12 months.

This week, the children designed, baked and embellished their cakes in course, said Drogosch, the teacher of the “modern working day property economics” class.

“It’s a minimal wild and it’s sort of crazy, but it is so a great deal entertaining,” she said. “And they truly have a very good time with it.”

On Monday, students each and every chose a theme and made their cake and the pizza box it would be displayed within. The next working day, they broke out the whisks and oven mitts to bake their cakes within the classroom’s kitchen lab. Thursday, the pupils watched “Nailed It,” a baking demonstrate that pokes exciting at beginner cake bakers, and savored their tasty creations, Drogosch explained.

Creations incorporated cakes of SpongeBob SquarePants, the galaxy of planets, a basketball courtroom, a tropical island, Batman, a car and a seashore scene with sharks.

“They acquired to choose what cake pans they needed to use, some made cupcakes, some did circles, some were being stacked,” the trainer mentioned. “They employed fondant, they employed all types of things.”

Her eighth-quality class was specially thrilled for the fingers-on undertaking soon after attending university practically through the pandemic, Drogosch reported.
